Plans and billing
Compare plan limits, track ingestion units, and change or manage a subscription.
Each organization has one plan. The plan sets how many projects and seats the organization can have, how long projects can keep telemetry, and how many ingestion units it includes each month.
Compare plans
| Plan | Price | Ingestion units per month | Maximum retention | Projects | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 30,000 | 14 days | 1 | 2 |
| Pro | $25 per month | 500,000 | 30 days | 5 | 5 |
| Team | $50 per month | 2,000,000 | 90 days | Unlimited | Unlimited |
For current purchase terms, read telemetry.dev/pricing.
How ingestion units are counted
One ingestion unit is one span, one log record, or one metric data point. A trace with 12 spans uses 12 units.
The monthly allowance belongs to the organization and covers all of its projects. Usage resets at the start of each calendar month in UTC.
What happens at the Free limit
The Free plan stops accepting telemetry at 120% of its allowance: 36,000 units in a month. A request that would take the month’s total past 36,000 is rejected as a whole. The ingest service returns 429 quota_exceeded with a Retry-After header that gives the seconds until the next month starts in UTC.
Paid Pro and Team subscriptions count usage but do not reject telemetry above the monthly allowance. A Pro or Team plan from a gift works differently; read Use a gift plan.
To get a warning before the limit, turn on the Quota running out alert in the Alerts tab of the organization settings.
Check usage
Open the organization switcher, select Organization settings, and then select the Usage tab. It shows:
- Ingestion units used this month and the plan allowance
- Spans, logs, and metric points this period
- Projects used and the plan limit
- Seats used and the plan limit, counting members and unexpired pending invitations
- The date the usage resets
For one project, select Settings in the project sidebar and then the Usage tab. It shows the project’s ingestion units this month against the organization’s allowance, and the traces, spans, logs, and metric points that the project currently stores.
Change your plan
An organization owner or admin can upgrade the plan.
Open billing
Open Organization settings, then the Billing tab.
Choose a plan
Select Upgrade to Pro or Upgrade to Team. The tab shows only plans above the plan you pay for. During a gift, the button for the gifted plan reads Subscribe to instead.
Pay
Complete the checkout. telemetry.dev uses Polar for payments.
Return to telemetry.dev
After checkout, telemetry.dev shows “Checkout complete”. The plan changes when telemetry.dev receives the payment confirmation from Polar, so it can take a short time to appear.
On a deployment without billing set up, the tab says that plans can’t be changed there.
Manage a subscription
Select Manage billing on the Billing tab to open the Polar customer portal, where you manage the subscription.
Only the admin who paid for the subscription sees Manage billing. Other owners and admins see “Billing is managed by another admin of this organization.”
Deleting the organization also cancels its subscription. The cancellation can take a few minutes.
Use a gift plan
A gift link gives an organization the Pro or Team plan for a set time, without a card. An owner or admin with a verified email address opens the link and selects the organization. Only an organization without a paid plan or another active gift can claim one.
During the gift, the Billing tab shows the gifted plan, its end date, and how much of the gift’s ingestion budget is used.
- The gift has a lifetime ingestion budget, shared by the whole organization. It does not reset each month.
- If the organization does not pay for a plan, ingestion stops when the budget runs out or when the month’s usage would pass the gifted plan’s monthly allowance. The ingest service returns
429 quota_exceeded. The gift itself continues until its end date. - If the organization also pays for a plan, ingestion continues without using the gift budget.
When the gift ends, the organization returns to the Free plan, unless it has a subscription. To keep the plan, subscribe before the end date.
